Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program

The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program offers free workshops for parents, medical and childcare providers, and teachers with information on lead screenings, products that contain lead, and how to prevent child lead exposure.

Services are also available on evenings and weekends by special arrangement.


What services does the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program offer?

  • Education to parents of infants and young children, medical providers, childcare providers and teachers on how to prevent lead poisoning.
  • Case management to families of children with lead poisoning. This includes coordination of medical care and testing, assessment of nutrition status and child development, referrals to other services as needed, and environmental investigations of the home.
  • Advocacy for policies and regulations that prevent childhood lead poisoning.

Alameda County Healthy Homes Project

  • The Alameda County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban development to improve the lives of asthmatic children in Alameda County. The Project will provide families with multi-hazard housing interventions and in-home education. The interventions cover a wide array of allergen reduction, moisture and ventilation control, and safety services. By addressing the seven principles of Healthy Homes through housing interventions, Project participants are expected to exhibit a reduction in asthma symptoms and home injuries.
