MAYOR BATES' STAFF
Calvin Fong, Senior Aide
Calvin currently serves as the Mayor’s Senior Aide and is also the point person for transportation, land use and housing policy development. Calvin also staffs the Mayor on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
Calvin is a Berkeley native and holds a BS in Business Administration and a MBA degree in Finance, both from CSU Hayward.
Nils Moe, Senior Aide
Nils Moe currently serves as the Mayor’s Senior Aide. In this role, he is helping to implement Berkeley’s Climate Action Plan and working with the city staff and the community to reduce their GHG emissions. Nils was one of the founding team members responsible for creating Berkeley’s innovative solar financing program, which has since become a national model of renewable energy financing (PACE). Nils also staffs the Mayor on media inquiries.
Nils has an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School, an MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from SFSU and a BA in Environmental Science from McGill University.
Sbeydeh Viveros-Banderas, Senior Aide
Sbeydeh Viveros-Banderas currently serves as the Mayor’s Senior Aide and is the point person for education, health, community services and UC relations. She is currently working to implement the 2020 Vision for Berkeley’s Children and Youth and increasing post secondary success for young adults by working with community service providers and partners.
Sbeydeh is currently a 2013 MPA candidate at San Francisco State University with an emphasis on Urban Administration and received her BA in both Rhetoric and Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley.
Gregory Magofña, Legislative Assistant
Gregory manages the office's administration as well as constituent services. He oversees the Mayor's outreach efforts including the Bates Update and social media. Additionally, Gregory oversees the intern program and the Mayor’s schedule and calendar.
Gregory holds a BA from UC Berkeley in Political Science and has a minor in French.
The Mayor's Office benefits from the services of dedicated interns and volunteers. Duties include planning events, creating materials, programmatic research, community outreach, answering phones and working with volunteers.
