The I-80 Bicycle/Pedestrian Overcrossing provides non-automobile access between the residential and business districts on the east side of I-80 and the Berkeley waterfront, Bay Trail and future Eastshore State Park to the west of the freeway.
The Overcrossing consists of a steel arch bridge across the freeway with approach ramps and a touchdown plaza on either side.
The Overcrossing provides a gentle 5% slope (1:20) for easy use by wheelchairs, cyclists, strollers, and skaters.

A combination of Federal, State and local funds made up the project budget of $4.4. Local funds provided the required 11.5% match for the State and Federal combined funding of $3.9 million.
Construction was completed in 2002.
This innovative structure has won numerous awards including one for National Merit from the National Steel Bridge Alliance
